Will the Courts Allow You to Have Input if Your Teen Is Mandated to a Rehab?
If the courts mandate my teen to a rehab will I be able to make a request to have him sent to somewhere nearby my home? Or is that a bad idea? He has been in one once before, for a three month stay; voluntarily. That one was close to home, but I am thinking that since he is back on drugs they might not want to send him back there. They had a good program, he just wasn’t ready.
How do the courts choose a rehab?

You can make the request, but the court is under no obligation to pay attention to it. In fact, it may be decided that it’s better to put some distance between home and his rehab.
You could ask the court but in the end they will decide where he will go. Good luck.
Some places have a list of state approved rehabs. Sometimes this is done if the state is paying for it. Sometimes they pick vertain ones so that a caseworker or probation officer can check up on him.
But of course you can ask…. the judge might let you pick.
Understand the not ready but of course the judge might not him to go to the same place. He was there for 3 months so he understand the drill, knows the staff so he might feel a bit too comfortable.
Someone else had a good point in that he must not want him so close to home. He would want him to focus on rehab rather than having you visit all of the time.
Then there is the consideration that his freinds might visit….. people he probably should not be seeing. If the program is long term they sometimes let you leave for the day or overnight at some point. So he would probably see them.
But yes…… just ask the judge.
