Why Is It That Teens Are More Likely to Be Found in Drug Rehabs Than Adults?

I’m supposing that this is because teens are more susceptible to becoming addicted to drugs. Am I right? I just had an acquaintance who has just gotten out of rehab and was surprised to find that there are a lot of teens there. This just got me wondering.

I think you may have a point there. The reason why your friend saw that there are more teens spending their time inside that drug rehab is because teens are more likely to get themselves addicted to drugs for various reasons. Friends and peer pressure play an important role with regard to whether a teen will start taking drugs or not. This is probably because teens are very conscious of their social status and would not want to get left behind or be branded as an outcast. Those who do not do drugs during their teenage years are also less likely to start doing so when they are older. In fact, researches have shown that everyday, approximately 4,800 Americans under the age of 18 are trying marijuana for the first time. Just goes to show why there are a lot of teens inside rehabs nowadays. It’s a good thing that the government and other organizations are trying to prevent more teens from taking drugs.

they feel the need to rebel.

Possibly rebellion. Also its what the stars are doing. They also have peer pressure. Want to try it once to see what its like and then get addicted. There are so many things that lead kids to drug problems

Teens have a less developed pre-frontal cortex in their brain, which is the part of the brain that regulates impulse control. It encourages more risk-taking behavior.

    They are the biggest abusers

Teens are more likely to experiment with drugs then adults because they have less responsibilities and more free time. It’s easy for a teen to go to a party and snort some lines and get addicted then it is for a grown adult with a job and a family to maintain.

I don’t think that they are bigger abusers but they are more mentally unstable and are very influenced by outside sources. But I think a big thing that no one has brought up yet is that they are under someones guardinship, meaning they could be sent there by their parents even if the problem does not rival some of the adult problems.

I knew a girl that was sent to a Heroin-Meth Rehab for a cannabis problem. She was immediatley sent home because there was no point for her being there other than her parents wanted it.
