19 and Have Problems With Parents?

Question by Jimmy Jesberger: 19 and have problems with parents?
Hi. I would like to thank everyone for the advice in advance first. I am 19 years old and am currently having issues with my parents. I try to confront them on this and am just shot down. My step mom and father just team up on me. I go to school full time and work about 25 hours a week. I work at a bank which is a really good job for someone my age. I pay for my own schooling, my parents havent even as so much given me a dime for a book. I dont smoke and dont do drugs. I occasionally drink but dont do anything crazy and make sure to stay where I am overnight when i do.

Nothing has ever been good enough. My gpa last semester was a 3.78. My dumbass father didnt even know what that meant and my step mom just gave me an oh good. They tell me I dont work enough and im way too lazy. I work 25 hours a week and this semester im taking an overloaded schedule, 18 credits. I will be going away to a 4 year school in the fall and will just be taking loans out to pay for it but till than I have no idea what to do. How I am being treated is completely ridiculous. I get screamed at if I leave clothes in the washer or dryer. I do my own laundry as they make me.
Today my dad woke me up at 8 and was completely nasty to me. He woke me up to move sticks that fell after a snow storm. I normally dont get up till 12 or 1 on days i dont have school or work. This is one day a week. I moved the sticks, this took me till about 11 and I went in went back to sleep as i was extremely tired and had work later. He came in to my room yet again nasty and woke me up at 12 saying it was unacceptable to still be sleeping. When i explained to him that i was tired he bugged and gave me a curfew.
I really dont get what more a parent could ask for. They dont have to pay for anything school related. I work a good job. Maintain like my room and stuff in the house. Have good friends and such. Dont do drugs or anything. Is there something im missing? I think tomorrow im gonna tell them i think we need counseling.

Well, I’m not sure if this has already been suggested, but you could always move out. You are old enough to rent an apartment. Also, since your parents seem to not understand what goes on throughout your days, maybe you can like..bring a video camera or something along with you one day, and show them the tape(s) to give them a glimpse as to what you’re doing with your time with school and work and such. Maybe in one instance, talk to a guidance counselor at your college about the significance of a gpa and essentially the work load you’re taking on, along with working a 25 hour week. Talk to your boss about your college work load and your job work load & whatnot. Good luck!
