It is all about the high rate of recitivism!
Yes…no….and no.
Drug addicts, YES…Drug dealer, NO
Should drug offenders be treated the same as alcoholics?
Yes
With rehabilitation instead of prison time?
Yes (unless they get a DWI)
Did alcohol prohibition work?
No
Is it working for drugs?
No
are you proposing we legalize crystal meth and black tar heroin?
No as drugs are illegal. No prohibition didn’t work but drug prohibition seems to be holding up rather well..
Given that drugs seem so readily available in many prisons, sending people convicted of drug offences to prison is a bit like sending an alcoholic to a bar for treatment.
You’ll have seen the amazing ingenuity of prisoners when it comes to accessing drugs in prison – take a look at http://bit.ly/42W237 for an example.
Rehabilitation would be a far better response. If it could be combined with restitution, perhaps in the form of a community sentence, so much the better.
Why not check out some of the community sentences which are used in England and Wales at http://bit.ly/sls5U.
Yes
Yes
No
No
We should give them jobs, like we did for Rush Limbaugh. It will teach them responsibility.
THEY DO DO THAT. IF YOU SELL DRUGS THATS DIFFERENT
-no, a drug offender is not nesisarly an addict,
-no, a drug user should not be punished in any way, he should go to rehab only if he so chooses to
-no, alcohol prohibition was an act of tyranny
-no, the war on drugs is an act of tyranny
No prison time and hard labour and if you work you eat if not you starve. no TV, No rights, you get them back when you respect the rights of others and not before your sentence in full has been served.
Alclhol is legal.
Drugs are not.
if the govt never started this crazy war on drugs…i.e. “war on people”…then we wouldnt be in the mess we are in right now…so I guess my answer is YES….lol
This is what Rush Limbaugh thinks
“What this says to me is that too many whites are getting away with drug use. Too many whites are getting away with drug sales. Too many whites are getting away with trafficking in this stuff. The answer to this disparity is not to start letting people out of jail because we’re not putting others in jail who are breaking the law. The answer is to go out and find the ones who are getting away with it, convict them and send them up the river, too.
…We are becoming too tolerant as a society, folks, especially of crime, in too many parts of the country…. This country certainly appears to be tolerant, forgive and forget. I mean, you know as well as I do, you go out and commit the worst murder in the world and you just say you’re sorry, people go, “Oh, OK. A little contrition.”… People say, “I feel better. He said he’s sorry for it.” We’re becoming too tolerant, folks”.
–Rush Limbaugh TV show (10/5/95)
Yes Yes
and the answer to your other two questions:
you can’t force moralism on a nation without some sort of strong unitary government, any attempt to do so is supporting such a government.
I agree. I think most drugs should be made legal for several reasons. One, so drug users can seek treatment without being afraid of being arrested. Two, liberal drug policies in Portugal cut the percentage of HIV cases in the country because heroin users no longer needed to share need. Three, decriminalization hasn’t shown any adverse effects on drug use rates in Portugal either.
This people need support, not a slap on the wrist.
How often is one not the other these days? Might be a moot question.
No alcoholics are abusing a substance that’s legal to purchase and use. Drug addicts break the law the first time they try it, well before they are addicted.
Absofuckinglutely
People with a meth addiction or a smack addiction are ill, they need help.
Chucking them in prison does nothing for them or the society that has to live with them because all they do is come out of jail, they try robbing someones house for money to buy drugs, break their probation and they are back filling up jails wasting taxpayers money .
What they should be doing is drying them out, educating them to get a job and helping society and themselves.
Yes they should our prisons are over crowded, possession offenders that is hard core drug dealers or repeat offenders no they should do some time
