Well, Its That Time of Year Again, Prom. (Please Read)?
Question by Ruehl925: Well, its that time of year again, Prom. (Please Read)?
Alright so the end of the year is upon us. My schools prom is this Saturday, and prom party later that night. In the past, I’ve seen prom party as just another huge party, like New Years for example. However, I’m coming to realize just how different this weekend is for teens. Consider these statistics: “On a typical prom weekend in the United States 48 teenagers are killed, 5,202 are injured, and 40% of them are alcohol related.” Now the reason I wrote this is because today we were given a presentation on drunk driving, and like most presentations I showed up so I could miss Calculus class. Although I see drunk driving as a problem, I never really associated anyone I know with potentially being involved in these types of accidents. We were given a rough statistic by the Transportation Department that if we were to look around the cafeteria pick out 10 faces, 1 of them will die in a alcohol related accident. This shocked me. Now, my senior class is not a big class, there are 205 of us. I couldn’t imagine anyone of my senior class dying, not here, it seems impossible.
Now I appreciate that you took the time to read this, and if you did perhaps you could give me some input here. I’m just another teen in this world voicing my opinion and concerns, if you so choose to make a disrespectful comment in relation to this question, please keep it to yourself. So, my question to those who are graduating this year, or are attending prom party is:
How do you plan on getting home safely prom weekend?
Sorry for the long read.
Thanks guys. The maturity level on yahoo answers still amazes me.
Please, someone point out the part in my question where I said that I didn’t associate with people that drink. I have 15 beer for Saturday night. Every single one of my friends drink, and I do enjoy it.
