Psychiatrists Creating Drug Addiction in Children

(PRWEB) July 20, 2005

Since 1999, resolutions calling for an end to psychiatric drugging of children as a false solution to learning and behavioral problems have become a trend.

Â?ItÂ?s time we put a stop to the psychiatric ‘drug pushers’ in the Nations’ schoolsÂ?, said Joanna Young, of www.DrugAddictionHelpLine.com

It is common for people who had been labeled with ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) , and prescribed Ritalin, to turn to other addictive substances such as alcohol, marijuana, heroin, prescription tranquilizers, pain medication, cocaine and street amphetamines in attempts to soothe their restless brains and bodies. Withdrawal from Ritalin also causes violent behavior which is made evident by the increase of senseless violence amongst children and teens. The destructive effects of psychiatric drugs are visible in many areas of society.

Studies found that 6.8 percent of ninth-graders surveyed reported using Ritalin illicitly at least once. An annual report showed that 2.5 percent of 8th-graders abused Ritalin, as did 3.4 percent of 10th-graders and 5.1 percent of 12th-graders. A large survey at a public university showed that 3 percent of the students had used methylphenidate during the past year.

All psychiatric drugs have side effects of one kind or another. For example, it is not uncommon for people taking the major tranquilizers (Thorazine, Stelazine, Prolixin) to develop Â?tardive dyskinesia,Â? a horrible movement disorder where a person develops involuntary muscle spasms. The deadliest side effect is death itself. Autopsy reports show toxic levels from long-term use of the prescribed psychiatric drugs as the cause of death in children labeled ADHD.

In the United States alone there are 18 million alcoholics, 28 million children of alcoholics, 6 million cocaine addicts, 14.9 million who abuse other substances. These numbers represent the reported cases and do not take in account the millions of other Americans addicted to substances. School officials are reluctant to disclose the number of children in their schools addicted to Ritalin which is between 6 to 10 million annually.
