What Is It I Can Do to Sell Myself at a Job Interview When I Have a Record? Honesty Isn’t Cutting It.?

Question by riverwolfsong: what is it I can do to sell myself at a job interview when I have a record? Honesty isn’t cutting it.?
I am 41, “dual diagnosis”, and in recovery. I am having an extremely difficult time of it trying to find a job since I have a record. You’re supposed to be honest about this subject if the question arises on the application but this is getting me nowhere. I am no longer that person I used to be, prior to my last 6 yr stay and my P.O. will even give me a letter of recommendation. I am a hard worker and need a job immediately since my boyfriend is supporting both of us and we’re no longer making ends meet w/only 1 income. Does anyone have any positive suggestions that might be of some help to help me in winning over a prospective employer?
