It would be interesting if you could find some biochemical support for this thesis.
As an addictions specialist, what I would be most interested in is the person’s control over their addiction, and the degree to which it impairs functioning in other areas of their life (peer relationships, vocation, health, other leisure, etc.)
Always interesting to me that we can be so hurt by the things that start out feeling so good.
