My Dream Cop Job Lost Because of 3 Year Ago Mistake?
Question by jt_willow: My dream cop job lost because of 3 year ago mistake?
3 years ago I was discharged from the army for drug abuse, alchohol and one time drug use. I do not take any drugs now, and before then for that matter. I would love so much to become a police officer, but get turned down ever time I apply, just because of that. How long will I be punished for that, and what can I do to make the situation better, make myself marketable you could say. I have lived a perfect life since then, not even a ticket, but when they see “drug abuse” on my dd 214 they dont even ask. I need some advice.
I was disharged under honarable conditions, general

If you were dishonorably discharged from the military, or discharged but for narcotics use… You will never be able to get into any certified law enforcement officer / police agency job anywhere in the USA.
Sorry… that’s just the way it is. It will never change. The rules are the same everywhere. Some things in your past… no matter how far past… just ban some people out of this profession for life.
Its the same as having a Felony on your record. I do care if it was 20 years ago and since then you went on to cure Cancer and are a model citizen… You will never get looked at a second time for a LEO job.
