Parents, Do Drugs (Including Drinking/smoking) in Movies Bother You?

Question by Reb: Parents, do drugs (including drinking/smoking) in movies bother you?
I was looking through a site that breaks down the content of movies (e.g. “the f word is used, a woman is seen topless, a character is shot in the chest”, etc.) and it included stuff for substance abuse (“many characters are seen drinking socially/a man is seen shooting up heroin/the main character smokes frequently”). As a parent, how do you feel about your kids seeing people in movies drink/smoke/do drugs? Because it’s really not an issue for me – he knows what drugs are and what they do to you – but I’m curious about how other parents feel about it.

I definitely do not want my kids (at least not at this age) seeing people doing drugs.

Smoking doesn’t bother me. You can walk down any street in America and see someone smoking. My kids know it’s nasty and that it’s bad for you. Anytime they see someone on tv or in a movie smoking they say “eew yuck!”.

Drinking doesn’t bother me either as long as the characters are not becoming drunk. “Drinking socially” is fine with me. If there’s a bar scene in a movie, so what? Or if they just happen to be sitting around drinking beer, big deal.
