Glebe Group Makes a Difference About Drugs at the Glebe Fair
(PRWEB) December 4, 2004
We hear of a drug bust only a few short days ago of enough ecstasy powder to make 3 million tablets for street use. In almost the same breath we heard of another youth dying from the same drug. What can we do about it?
There is a group in Glebe doing something about it. They are called the Drug Free Ambassadors and sponsored by the Church of Scientology in Glebe. They have been running for 10 years and go to fairs and festivals and hit the streets and shopping centres, everywhere where the kids could go to take them the anti-drug message.
This definitely included the Glebe Street Fair 21 November 2004, where the Ambassadors gave our booklets Â?Ecstasy, the Enemy behind the MaskÂ? and Â?Marijuana the FactsÂ?. The results were nothing less than spectacular. In fact, they were so swamped that they ran out of leaflets (2000) in a few hours and had to go back to storage to get more.
With it’s easy to follow concepts the Ambassadors attracted thousands to their stall and over 400 youth and adults decided to swear-in on a pledge to be drug free and in turn help others.
A proud family of three told us how they all got off drugs some years ago and were never going back that direction. And they were happy to take their experience and share it with others so they donÂ?t make the same mistake. Even the youth about 10 years old had experienced it. One lady said that she dropped her last boyfriend because of his marijuana addiction. It made him less Â?thereÂ?. Another woman congratulated us on the campaign and told us she was doing well in her 12 step program and determined to get off drugs. We had young and old wanting to join in, whole families even taking the pledge; which is:
Â?As a Drug Free Ambassador, I pledge to lead the way by:
1. Living a drug-free life.
2. Showing my friends that a drug-free life is more fun.
3. Helping my fellow Drug Free Ambassadors.
4. Learning more about how drugs really harm people.
5. Telling people the truth about the harmful effects of drugs.
6. Helping my family and friends be drug free.
7. Setting a good example to all children, by leading the way to a drug-free Australia.Â?
Last year the Glebe and Sydney Ambassadors swore in 13,000 new Ambassadors. As 2004 closes, they are looking to beat it soundly.
Spokesperson Cyrus Brooks said about the group: Â?We are all volunteers and I am very proud these guys. Every week they give up their time and talk to the youth of a better and drug-free lifeÂ?fantastic. And being from Glebe, we are very happy to be here at the Glebe Street Fair and for such a great resultÂ? Wow! Over 400 new Ambassadors on the day. Author and Humanitarian, L. Ron Hubbard said, Â?Save the child and you save the nation.Â? I think that is what we are doing.Â?
The Ambassadors will return with more events in the next couple weeksÂ?call for more details: Cyrus Brooks, 9692 7308 or 0428 755 244. And get your free copies of the booklets.
