The simple statement ” First Things First” is so powerful and holds the key that will save our lives. What it means is above all concerns and circumstances we “Can Not Drink” period. This is a matter of survival for us. We are dealing with a killer. Our plan is to not reactivate this beast by not taking the first one. The old saying ” one is to many and a thousand is not enough” could not be said more truthfully.

If we don’t value or lives, and our health. We won’t have family, friends, and a job. To have all three we must value our life first. Our soberity is the cornerstone of a life of success, happiness, and love. So we need to take all the precautions and steps to not take that drink. Giving up drinking is not easy, but it is simple.

We need to be very careful of a tiny but dangerous word “If”. We are so used to using it in our drinking days. If only my wife would listen, if only I had a better job then I would not drink. If you had my life you would drink to. After we are sober for while the “if’s” can come back. Must of the time in a hidden reservation about our soberity. Being sober is great if everything is going well. If I lose my job I don’t know how I could handle it. No excuse. Our disease is doing push ups, waiting for us to become vulnerable. Alcoholism does not go away.

We need to stay sober regardless of what life throws at us. No problem has ever been made better by a drink. Over time you will become stronger and will be able to handle live’s surprises. It’s when you first give up drinking. You really have to be on guard.
