NARCONON Drug and Alcohol Rehabilitation – the Facts

(PRWEB) April 15, 2005

The NARCONON drug and alcohol rehab programme uses a totally drug-free method of withdrawal (we don’t substitute one drug to get off another). This first step of the programme assists the individual to cease current drug use rapidly and with minimal discomfort through proper nutrition, vitamins and care from experienced NARCONON staff.

Drugs and alcohol create nutritional deficiencies. Specifically, research has shown that Vitamin C, B Complex and Niacin deficiencies are brought about by drugs and alcohol. For example, alcohol can burn up so much vitamin B1 that a sleeping person will begin to experience nightmares. Continued consumption of alcohol creates a further loss of B1 thereby causing delirium tremens (DTs).

Nutritional experiments show that a person receiving a vitamin and mineral therapy will experience a far more comfortable withdrawal. Techniques to relieve accumulated stress also are used to assist in the withdrawal process. These techniques also aid the individual to rapidly cease drug use, and may be compared to the breathing techniques used in the LaMaz or Bradley form of natural childbirth to assist the mother to bear the pain of delivery. Simple in nature, they nonetheless result in a more comfortable transition through the discomfort of withdrawal.

A team of Withdrawal Specialists operates the Withdrawal House 24 hours a day, and a new person will be assisted in completing a drug-free withdrawal from whatever substance is in his system. Vitamins and Cal-Mag (a drink combination of calcium and magnesium) are administered every six hours to restore any vitamin deficiency and to relax cramping muscles. In addition, a series of physical assists, similar to massage therapy, helps any physical aches and pains that appear once the drugs begin to wear off. Another technique used is that of light objectives which help the individual focus, and delivered consistently, quickly brings a person through any distress.

Food and rest round out the withdrawal portion. Once a person is not experiencing any discomfort and is eating and sleeping well, they graduate this portion of the programme. (Each step of the programme completed earns a certificate which is presented a regular Friday night graduation ceremonies. Accomplishments are recognized and shared with other students, staff and special visitors, such as spouses or family.
