Mental and Addiction Disorders Is the Challenge of the 21st Century
(PRWEB) February 27, 2002
Cesar Fabiani, M.D., of Northwestern Institute was recently published in the Latin American Journal of Psychiatry. The article, entitled Comorbidity and Pharmacology, addresses the modern treatment for addiction.
In the journal he describes the advances that have taken place within the past 20 years. Dr. Fabiani stresses that addiction is a mental disorder and should not be treated differently than other psychiatric disorders. He adds, Â?what we are dealing with chemical imbalances in the brainÂ?. The biopsychosocial approach involves treating the whole person, allowing the treatment to be tailor made to an individual patient. This approach has been found to be as successful as the common treatment of hypertension.
A graduate of the Catholic University Medical School in Cordoba, Argentina, Dr. Fabiani has practiced psychiatry in North America for 30 years; three years at Northwestern Institute. Â?When I am able to relate to a patient and help them understand that there is hope, I am happy. When patients put their compulsions to good work, lives get turned aroundÂ?.
Dr. Fabiani is also:
board certified in psychiatric, addiction medicine and clinical psychopharmacology
a founding member of the American Academy of Addiction Psychiatry
