Happy Valley – Widescreen

A full-time father’s earnest mission to reunite his 12-year-old daughter with her drug-addicted mother serves as the catalyst for a series of unexpected miracles in director Ron Williams’ revealing look at the dark underbelly of an outwardly perfect community. Deep in the heart of Utah exists a community commonly known as “Happy Valley.” Not only does Happy Valley boast one of the lowest crime rates in the nation, but it’s also the leader in literacy and language fluency, as well as jello consumption. But there’s a dark side to this Utah County paradise, because here in Happy Valley residents consume twice the national average of anti-depressants, prescription drug abuse runs rampant, and suicide rates are skyrocketing. Not only that, but at least one teen dies there per week due to prescription drug abuse. In this film, viewers are invited to follow the stories of several families whose lives have been tragically and irreparably damaged due to this distressing trend, set against the inspirational backdrop of one father’s journey to bring his family back from the brink. As the state medical examiner, local undercover cops, doctors, recovering addicts, and regular locals let down their guard by opening up to the filmmakers about the dark secret that threatens to claim a community that prides itself on its purity, the viewer is witness to multiple acts of selflessness, forgiveness, acceptance, unconditional love, and startling emotional transformation. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi
