Journey Healing Centers Releases New Years Resolutions Sobriety Plan
Journey Healing Centers Releases New Years Resolutions Sobriety Plan
Scottsdale, AZ (PRWEB) January 13, 2011
With approximately 1 out of 10 Americans over the age of 12 addicted to drugs and/or alcohol (SAMSHA), there is an even greater urgency for keeping sobriety resolutions in 2011. Individuals can take charge of their lives, and families can get loved ones back using Journey Healing Centers (private drug and alcohol treatment centers) New Years Resolutions Sobriety Plan. Not only has the number of Americans addicted skyrocketed, only 11% are getting treatment (SAMSHA.) When attempting to give up any feel-good addictions (drinking coffee, smoking cigarettes, or nightly painkillers), this plan helps addicts re-wire their brain and stop drinking and/or abusing illicit or prescription drugs.
The chance of success for keeping sobriety resolutions skyrockets once someone identifies powerful reasons to commit versus only setting a goal. Lisa Lannon, Cofounder of Journey Healing Centers explains, “Once I gave my husband an ultimatum that it was either his addictions or me, he went into treatment that day.” With emotion as the number driver of behavior change, Journey Healing Centers New Years Resolutions Sobriety Plan includes holistic healing for the mind, body and soul.
New Years Resolutions Sobriety Plan
1. Replace Addictions with Healthy Habits – Replace bad habits (smoking, coffee, unhealthy eating) with healthy hobbies, and do them at a routine time to re-wire your brain. By replacing a nightly dessert with a walk around the block, it’s easier to re-direct your energy towards positive activities. Many addictions take more than just replacing it with another hobby, and through Journey Healing Centers holistic healing programs, clients can re-direct addictions, heal and learn healthy habits through treatments such as art therapy, yoga, and equine therapy.
2. Define a Higher Purpose – Without a bigger picture purpose, it’s way too easy to break resolutions. When someone decides to stop any type of substance abuse, it helps to think about how much better life can be without addictions, how personal relationships can be enhanced, and how stress can be reduced on the family. Josh Lannon, Journey Healing Centers CEO explains, “Once I recognized that my marriage was over if I could not break my addictions, it was a big incentive to stay sober. I was also ready to stop using, I just didn’t know how. The ultimatum from my wife was my lifeline.”
3. Have a Support Team set Boundaries – Most addicts will first try to get sober on their own. If the addict is not successful in getting sober and refuses treatment, it’s important for the family support team to set boundaries to assist loved ones in stopping substance abuse. Instead of taking a passive approach to “let go or just stop doing it,” Journey Healing Centers recommends families set boundaries. Loved ones should define guidelines, and hold the addict accountable instead of ignoring excessive drinking. If the addict breaks their resolution to stop abusing alcohol and/or drugs, families have to raise the issue. By having regular caring interventions, the loved one can be reminded of the impact of the behavior. If the addict still cannot break bad habits, suggest treatment options where professionals can support their sobriety.
4. Seek Therapy or Support Groups – While many individuals are able to stop abusing substances on their own, the majority cannot do it alone. While using substances may start out as social or fun, eventually it can turn into addiction, having physical and/or emotional impacts. To be more successful at keeping a Sobriety Resolution, find a support group, enroll in treatment or therapy to find out the source of why it became an addiction. Most people become addicted because it numbs emotional pain and therapy is recommended to release and heal the pain so the person doesn’t relapse or become addicted to another substance.
By taking an honest look at what is causing the substance abuse or other unhealthy habits and making a defined plan with meaning, it’s much easier to keep resolutions and stay sober. Journey Healing Centers offers a Sobriety for Life Program and free Aftercare for Life to assist and support clients in getting and staying sober. Addicts need to take action in 2011 versus playing Groundhog Day with the same New Years resolution in 2012.
