Drug and Alcohol Rehab Services: Drug Rehab in Overwhelming Demand

Finding a drug rehab program in the United States is of extreme importance to literally millions of U.S. citizens. Today in this country their are an estimated 20 to 30 million people over 12 years of age who use and abuse drugs, the majority of which truly need drug and alcohol rehab services. Still, with all this need their are around 3 percent of those in need who actually attend a program.

Why the big gap? Why do more people who suffer from addiction not end up entering into an addiction treatment program? The answer is in many cases availability and awareness of available programs. Although many issues surround the admission into drug treatment, the driving forces of availability through not enough programs being available or waiting lists a mile long combined with the broad public having a lack of truly worthwhile and factual information about program availability cause millions to go untreated.

Waiting lists, especially in the area of detox is a major issue. It is hard to locate a drug or alcohol detox program in the U.S. that has immediate availability. This is even more severe an issue when funding becomes a concern as many state funded beds are and have been associated with a waiting list for some time. In the case of an individual who desperately needs detox services, this wait can mean loss of desire to stop using, loss of abstinence by returning to the drugs or worst yet, loss of life due to eventual overdose due to the continued consumption of life threatening drugs and alcohol.

With regards to the uninformed addiction treatment researcher, there can appear to be no available drug rehab programs when the person has limited their search to their local area or the most popularly promoted drug rehab programs. The fact is there are over 14,000 addiction treatment and recovery resources in the United States and these are usually not readily available to the novice searcher. Without assistance an individual might end up giving up the search concluding their to be no help and therefore no hope when this is usually not the case.

Resources like Drug rehab Locator strive to serve those who need the help by pointing the researcher in the direction of programs that might end up saving the life of someone they truly care about. It is my opinion that everyone deserves help and that help must be made available before it is too late.
