Dual diagnosis is an ailment that involves substance abuse and a psychological problem. This means that your uncle is very emotionally imbalanced, and would need a lot of treatment to get better. Treating dual diagnosis is a complicated process because treating one disorder would not mean that the other will eventually go away. Intense medical treatment, and probably inpatient rehabilitation for months are probably what your uncle needs.
