Career/ College Advice for a Creative, Practical Person Who Likes Dealing With Teens?
I took a career personality test through HotJobs! I’m 23, with an A.A in general studies, planning on starting my bachelors this fall.
My result: your career should be . . .
Social and Practical!
You are the kind of person who likes helping others. You enjoy social interaction and helping people overcome their personal problems. You are likely to be friendly, outgoing and understanding. While you enjoy people, you are not afraid of getting your hands dirty or working in areas where you can produce tangible results.
You are likely to enjoy occupations that allow you to have close interpersonal relations with people. Occupations where you can teach, advise, or otherwise assist people with their problems will be attractive to you. You will enjoy occupations that have a practical as well as a personal aspect to them.
This is true pretty much!
I’m currently a substitute teacher and really enjoy dealing with teenagers. I also volunteer my time at a local drug and alcohol rehab center on sundays. I wouldn’t mind being a teacher, however, I do not agree with the way things are taught (hardly any varying on the state guidelines which are focused on scores). I’ve considered being a juvenile probation officer as well, but not sure if that will be what I’m looking for. I never enjoyed school, thought it was a waste of time, therefore I would see myself as a hypocrite if I did become a teacher. I thought also about being a high school counselor (at least I could help, but then there are those state tests that have to be administered). I understand the need, however, I do not advocate that.
What are some jobs that could fulfill who I am? I’m very practical and do like being alone from time to time (I’m very creative, I guess that’s the brooding artist). I’m also a youth leader at my church.
Any advice would be helpful for a creative, practical person who likes helping people especially teenagers.
