Narconon Arrowhead Provides Drug Rehab for Atlanta Residents

Atlanta like most cities has a huge problem with drugs and alcohol. The crime rate due to drug abuse is high and many people who go through the justice system are repeat offenders. Atlanta’s plan to help drug offenders is underway and those who are non-violent offenders can be sentenced to drug rehab in some cases instead of spending more time in jail. Narconon Arrowhead wants to help by offering drug education lectures which it has been doing since 2000. After all the best way to solve the problem is to educate the people about the dangers of drugs and alcohol.

A survey conducted by the Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP) released data from the 2008 Arrestee Drug Abuse Monitoring Program (ADAM II), the only Federal drug survey which tests for drugs in addition to relying on interview data. The report, which surveys drug use among booked male arrestees in 10 major metropolitan areas across the country shows that 15 percent of males arrested in Atlanta tested positive for drugs. The most common substances present during tests, in descending order, are marijuana, cocaine, opiates, and methamphetamine. Data on drug use, drug markets, treatment utilization, and criminal offenses were collected among booked arrestees in jails within 48 hours of their booking.

Gil Kerlikowske, Director of National Drug Control Policy said, “Not only does this new report reaffirm the strong link between drug use and crime, but it also tells us that we must concentrate our resources on programs that have been proven to break the cycle of drugs and crime. Incarcerating offenders without treating underlying substance-abuse problems simply defers the time when they are released back into our communities to start harming themselves and our communities again. Research shows that recidivism rates go down substantially among those who undergo treatment and recovery support services in the criminal justice system.”

There are many types of drug rehab to choose from such as inpatient drug rehab, outpatient drug rehab, long term rehab, short term rehab, detoxification, and several kinds of meeting. Some of these models of treatment will substitute one drug for another while others will leave you walking out the door drug free completely. Any effective program will have a follow up program for the individual to make sure that they are achieving success.  The goal: a healthy drug free member of society, who can function and produce on a daily basis without drugs or alcohol.
