Drug and Alcohol Treatment Available for September 11 Survivors With PTSD
September 11 now holds a whole new meaning to many Americans. As the date once again appears, it can propose a whole new set of feelings as well as a mixture of many old feelings. For those who were directly or indirectly affected by the 9/11 terrorist attacks, the reminder of that horrific day can often times bring about many psychological issues such as PTSD and many more.
While there were 3017 deaths and over 6200 injuries reported from the 2001 attacks, there have been, and continues to be, a much greater number of people affected by the aftermath of these incidents – those that seem to have been affected in a much different way than physical. These are the ones who continue to fight the battle of the dark day several years later.
Often times, many of these September 11 survivors turn to substances abuse to help mask the pain away. There are those who drink to extreme and others who utilize other drugs such as heroin, Oxycontin and many other pain pills. Unfortunately, they don’t realize that these substances can lead to an additional crux which is addiction.
Drug and alcohol treatment for 9/11 survivors is available for such people who are willing to accept the help being offered. Many of the facilities treating these patients for substance abuse also work with the co-occurring issues such as PTSD and depression. There are even facilities whom specialize in the treatment of combined addiction and mental health concerns.
Many people simply don’t know where to turn for help. Others are too fearful of divulging that they might have a problem. For those who are seeking help, they can rest assured that all information is held in complete and total confidence. And that none of their personal information or records will be made available to anyone ? no matter what the reason is. These facilities are simply there to help.
With the anniversary of that fateful day soon approaching once more, let us take a moment to remember those who are no longer with us. But also, let us reach out a helping hand to those who continue to carry that day much heavier than us. If you or someone you know is affected by addiction and other co-occurring disorders and would like help ? know that there is help available.
