Apart From Taking Prescription Drugs (E.g. Prozac) What Are Other Effective Ways to Deal With Depression?

Question by Mimi89: Apart from taking prescription drugs (e.g. Prozac) what are other effective ways to deal with depression?
I have anxiety and depression problems. I’m extremely hesitant about taking prozac. I’ve tried other cognitive ways to cope but I don’t know why it isn’t helping. Personal experiences are appreciated!
I’m hesitant because I don’t want to take ANY prescription drug for the rest of my life. I will be combining therapy with the use of Prozac.

How about other antidepressants like Zoloft or Wellbutrin? Those might help. Why are you hesitant about Prozac anyways, it is not a bad drug, though it might have some side effects. You also might try an herbal pill you can get over the counter called St. Johns Worts or even Kava Kava might work. Or, aside from pills altogether, how about reading spiritual books or anything uplifting. Uplifting music, classical music is very soothing and has proven to have therapeutic effects. Or how about meditating. Or exercising helps relieve stress and gets your oxygen flow going. Keeping a journal- writing how you feel on a daily basis can make you feel better and even help you focus on what’s getting you down.

Psychotherapy is another treatment option with a reasonable likelihood of effectiveness.
