Can You Please Help: I Am Going to Be a Depressive Loner at University?

Question by John M: can you please help: I am going to be a depressive loner at university?
I am going to start university but I am scared that I will be a loner with no friends. The reason I am scared is that I suffer social phobia/anxiety and I had the same problem at college and I only managed to make 1 real friend who I clung to.
I have 6 months to improve myself but I don’t know what to do, please help as I want to feel comfortable as possible as I will be living on campus

A lone wolf, eh? Well, being that you have a phobia, there is not much I, or any other member of this site, its a mental problem. What I can say is this: Try to find other students who perhaps share the same problem. See if you can find out if there are any clubs composed of people who have similar interests– better yet, a support group.

are you going to be living on campus? Try making friends within the dorm or joining study groups. Do you have any type of activities? or what about a 12 step group for social phobia. I went to a dual diagnosis group for awhile and felt very welcomed. If you have 6 months what about getting into some counseling right now to gain some confidence… God Bless Reggie
