Drug and alcohol addiction is an evil that has pointed its attack at that part of the society where it hurts the most, that is, the youth. With everyday more and more youth of the society taking to drugs and alcohol, the problem of addiction has reached such a level where it requires attention on an emergency level. Often, the addict himself may not be in a situation to seek help or enroll into a rehabilitation program. Hence it becomes the responsibility of the family members of the addict to take him to a clinic. Now, most conventional addiction treatment facilities rely mainly or pharmacotherapy or medical detoxification where the patient is cleansed of the drugs and alcohol in his body and sent into remission. This is usually followed by counseling session but the patients, after completion of the program, often have difficulty in coping up with the pressure situations of everyday life and many of them go back to taking drugs again.

Here, not only is the patient detoxified and counseled, but this treatment also cultivates the faith of the patient in God to help him realize his wrongs and shows him a better side of life once he is free from his addiction. The Christian addiction treatment centers have a church where the patients need to pray for at least one hour everyday followed by group therapy session as well as attending religious sermons by the pastor where there is reading and subsequent discussion of religious scriptures like the Bible and the Old and New Testaments to understand how God expects us to live our lives and how, by giving in to drugs and alcohol, one has strayed away from the path of good.

Most of these faith based treatment centers follow the 12 step program which aims to tackle the problem of addiction with a holistic approach, starting with the addict realizing and admitting his mistake of giving in to drugs and alcohol followed by the process of getting the addict to renounce the addictives and get rid of his addiction and finally, after the patient is out of drugs and addiction it helps the patients stay clean of the drugs by engaging in different social welfare activities which the patient views as an attempt to make amends for the wrongs that he might have committed towards his friends, family or the society while under the effects of drugs and alcohol.

Most faith based treatment programs hold special sessions for its patients who have been cleaned of their addiction to instruct them about social behavior and to train them in social activities which helps them to cope with their lives after getting clean. This helps them find a new interest in life and gives them new hope and a reason to live for. Thus, it is less probable for a person having gone through the faith based program to go back to taking drugs.
