Albuquerque, New Mexico (Vocus) June 16, 2009
Desert Oasis Recovery, a New Mexico in-patient drug, alcohol, and gambling addiction treatment center, one of only two privately run drug, alcohol and gambling addiction treatment centers in the State of New Mexico, announces the use of auricular “accu-detox” acupuncture therapy for addictive therapy.
Auricular “accu-detox” acupuncture is a treatment developed from a protocol from the National Acupuncture Detoxification Association. The treatment uses points in the ears that relate to organs involved in detoxification or addiction treatment, and are more specifically the liver, kidneys, lungs, and nervous system. The reported benefits from this treatment are improved program retention, more optimism and cooperative attitude about the process of recovery and a lowered level in cravings, anxiety, sleep insomnia, and need for drugs. Tami Pacheco, the Executive Director of Desert Oasis Recovery, states “Accu-detox as form of therapy in reducing cravings for addictive drugs and reducing anxiety is extremely effective.” The United States Air Force recently decided to begin training their military physicians being deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan in battlefield acupuncture. Accu-detox can be used to treat pain, and addictions. It is extremely powerful therapy.
Coupled with the use of traditional 12-step addiction treatment therapy, Desert Oasis Recovery also uses “accu-detox” to help restore balance in its clients lives. Staff member Connie Henry is a State of New Mexico Certified Auricular Acupuncture Specialist.
