Do Democrats Really Believe in Personal Freedoms?
Question by Brad: Do Democrats really believe in personal freedoms?

Yes, the Democrats support a woman’s right to have an abortion. However, Democrats certainly don’t support a woman’s right to sell the sexual use of her body or a man’s right to purchase that (that is, they don’t support legalized prostitution, although politicians of both parties are regular customers of black market prostitutes). Democrats also don’t support anybody’s right to put whatever substances they want into their own body (that is, they support Prohibition of some drugs and oppose the efforts in California to nullify marijuana laws; the liberals on the Supreme Court even ruled against medical marijuana; the dissenters in Gonzales v. Raich, the medical marijuana case were conservatives Rehnquist and Thomas and moderate O’Conner).
Most Democrats don’t even support gay marriage. Obama is against gay marriage, as are the majority of Democrats in California.
Surely, Democrats can be counted on to defend freedom of speech, right? Wrong. Although the ACLU is very good on this issue, many liberal Democrats are perfectly fine with laws against so-called “hate speech” and with “speech codes” on college campuses. Democrats also are often the leading supporters of firing people who make “politically incorrect” statements or other statements that they disagree with. Democrats were even the leading supporters of efforts to censor video games. Hillary Clinton and a number of other Democrats attempted to intimidate the video game industry into censoring its products around 5 years ago.
The Democrats have not repealed the Patriot Act. They are even pushing for legislation to allow the president to shut down the Internet on “national security” pretenses when he deems it necessary. The Democrats haven’t even done anything to stop airports from installing porno-scanners and from sexually assaulting anybody who “opts out” of being photographed naked by the scanner machine (although it is equally shameful that Republicans, the supposed “party of moral values” won’t oppose these indecent machines).
Obviously, the Republican Party’s record is just as bad on economic freedom (not to mention how bad it is on personal freedom). Yes, Republicans want to cut taxes, but they don’t want to cut anything else (except “waste, fraud, and abuse” and “run government like a business”). It seems that Democrats could care less about any personal liberty other than a woman’s right to an abortion (and even that might be abandoned soon).

Surrender Dorothy
The Problem: Trevor, 26, is a loner obsessed with women. But he’s so afraid of them he can barely speak in their presence. He needs companionship. A lover, someone to trust, someone to obey him… Lahn, 22, is a smack addict and slacker. He likes women, but not as much as heroin. He stole his dealer’s stash, and now needs a place to hide, someone to conceal and protect him… The Solution: Trevor can hide Lahn, lie for him, provide for him… The Price: But only if Lahn becomes Dorothy, Trevor’s perfect woman! The boldest psychosexual drama since Blue Velvet, Surrender Dorothy is the compelling and controversial story of two heterosexual men who come together in need and begin one of the most unusual relationships on film. Cross-dressing, gender-bending and drug abuse are the norm as Lahn becomes Dorothy for the price of a fix. But is it enough for Trevor? A grittily acted piece that mixes intense drama and black comedy, Surrender Dorothy takes all your perceptions of human behavior and turns them upside-down and inside-out!
