Do the Antidepressants Like Flouxetine and Sertraline Come Under “ILLEGAL DRUGS”?
Question by aldehyde: Do the antidepressants like flouxetine and sertraline come under “ILLEGAL DRUGS”?
At what dose, can it be called as a drug abuse? They are just innocent medicines, can they be called as prohibited drugs?
Are there people who really “ABUSE” these medicines. What happens to them?
Can somebody get addicted to these drugs?

Sertraline and Fluoxetine are Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors, and they are legal when prescribed by a physician including a psychiatrist, or a nurse practicioner.
A prescribed drug is abused when it is taken in doses greater than prescribed, and an addiction is formed when there is tolerance and or withdrawal symptoms. These drugs are less toxic than the traditional tricyclic antidepressants, but a person can abuse anything, including food if they have too much of it.
These drugs, however, are not habit forming or physiologically addicting (their effects do feel good, but they are not addicting)- however withdrawal from the drugs should be under the direction of a physician or nurse practicioner.
