Do You Feel Alienated by Modern-Day Christianity?

Question by AEGuy: Do you feel alienated by modern-day Christianity?
Okay, I don’t mean to sound sacrilegious or anything, but I am getting really frustrated with modern-day Christians.

I grew up in a very religious Baptist & Pentecostal home, and spent many days in church during my youth.

My other half and the rest of my immediate family is religious, but I have not been to church in years. I feel like churches nowadays are even more judgmental than they were when I was a kid, and three times as radical socially.

It is crazy that when, as an adult, I can’t choose to let my daughter go out on a date with a boy her age without fear of friends and neighbors calling an “intervention” due to me “allowing my daughter to sin.” I can’t go hang out at a club out of fear of someone I know seeing me. It is ridiculous. If I vote for the wrong person, then I am “sinning against God.”

I am not losing my faith in a higher power, but I am losing my faith in the modern religious establishment. Is it wrong for me to disavow church and just be “spiritual?
I disagree that Christianity is “under attack” in modern times. I believe that some specific groups of Christians are trying to forcefully impose their beliefs on everyone else, thinking “if you’re not with us, you’re against us.”

When people openly disagree with what they are doing, they state that they are “under attack.”

As a Christian myself, I find it sad that you are being condemned by fellow brothers and sisters. I do not feel alientated by my Christian friends, but I do believe that many Christians are straying from the original truths of the Bible.

We should love our neighbors, and not condemn them. True, if someone is falling away from God we should correct them; but we need to do it gently and in a loving way.
I’m really sorry for you that you feel the way you do. Remember that there are Christians out there who still follow the ways of Christ. Please, try coming back to church, and if your church body is hurting you, try talking with some of them about it, or try another church. Just please, I beg you, do not fall away from Jesus Christ, remember he is the only way.
I’ll pray for you, as a sister in Christ.
