Dual diagnosis Psychiatrist’s and GP’s comparative study: The role of mental health services (Psychiatrist’s) and primary care services (GP’S) in their treatment of dual diagnosis
This study compared two treatment services, primary services (GPs) and mental health services (psychiatrists), in their approach to treating patients with dual diagnosis. Data was retrieved through postal questionnaires to 200 Dublin-based GPs and 200 psychiatrists. Results showed, in practice, GPs were less likely than psychiatrists to have a treatment model for dual diagnosis. GPs were inclined to treat dual diagnosis as two separate conditions.
