Effexor….I Have Read a Lot of Really Bad Things About This Medication What Do You Think About It?

I have read, heard, and experienced a lot of really bad things that have to do with the antidepressant Effexor. The side effects are horrible and when you decide to stop taking them the side effects of weening off of it is worse than the original side effects…
Any thoughts or insight into this growing problem that people face due to doctors who seem overly willing to prescribe a medication that can make someone so miserable to help with depression?

I was actually prescribed Effexor-XR by my psychiatrist after years of trying out other anti-depressants and found that this one has helped me the best. In the worst of times I’ve also found a little bit of Welbutrion helps me, too. The thing is that different anti-depressants affect — or don’t affect — people differently and people have to find the right ones. The only times when I noticed negative affects are if I miss a day’s worth of pills but that’s to be expected as the drugs are meant to be taken on a regular schedule.
As for Doctors over prescribing anti-depressants, this is probably true. They have minimal training in these matters at best and because they aren’t also counselors/therapists they’re probably unaware of other things that can contribute to the problems such as alcoholism or life related crisises/events. It’s supposed to be a good thing that Doctors can prescribe anti-depressants, as a person might be too scared to search out a psychiatrist and a therapist, but it also leads to this “Well, I’ll prescribe you X and we’ll see if that helps” mentality.
