Finding the Right Drug and Alcohol Rehab Center
Not everyone who snorts powder up their nose, or squirts stuff in their arm, or pours alcohol down their throat is the same. Anyone who has been addicted or witnessed addiction can tell you that. But all too often we lump addicts into one category. We watch someone fall from a recreational user to a habitual user, and then we try to get them into rehab. The process becomes generic. Some of us have been numbed by the repetition of this process. Others don’t know what to do with an addict, so any kind of rehab seems like the viable option. Either way, at the end of the day, we tend to lump anyone who suffers from addiction together and send them off to rehab.
Well, rehab is a viable option, but it has to be done right. Simply getting an addict to admit they have a problem and blindly shipping them off to rehab doesn’t usually work. And that’s mainly because there’s a difference between detox and rehab. We bid farewell to those going into rehab with hopes that they’ll come out clean—but that’s just the detox part. The actual rehab, or rehabilitation, is the tricky part.
Let’s go back to the very first sentence of this essay. People get involved with drugs for a seemingly infinite number of reasons. Some of the richest people in the world do drugs; some of the poorest people in the world do drugs. There’s no generic way that someone slips into drug and alcohol addiction, so there shouldn’t be a generic way to climb out of addiction. So, on that note, it should be made clear that not all drug rehabilitation centers are the same.
Addiction needs to be fought on three levels: physical, mental, and spiritual. Depending on the addict, one rehab center may be more suitable than the other. For some people, it may be helpful to find a clinic with religious affiliations to help bring them back to their faith. For others, it might be helpful to search rehab clinics that specializes in their addiction. The decision that an addict needs rehab is a relatively easy one. But finding a suitable drug and alcohol rehab center is a decision that takes time and research. However, there are substance abuse resources at your disposal. So, if you’re suffering addiction or you’re helping someone who is, make sure you find a rehabilitation center that fits the addict and will actually help them rehabilitate.
