Heroin Abuse: Percocet From the VA?
Question by Bible_bhanger: percocet from the VA?
a girl I met online says she got a nerve trauma disorder, and hence an early release from boot camp
from chatting online I’ve found out she’s on percocet and a couple other prescriptions – she gets them from the VA medical system
how common is this prescription really?
is she likely abusing “hillbilly heroin” or does percocet really have a medical foundation as a drug?
in general I’m not a fan of man-made Rx’s
I’m an epileptic- I take phenytoin (which has zero to negative status as a “fun factor” drug) but I also see a legitimate use in medical marijuana, which some may rank likewise to heroin.
but one is made by God, the other was invented by greedy idiots shortsightedly claiming benefit.
I’ve been prescribed hydrocodone once and got off of it asap feeling it’s effects on my body
I’m now 7 years sober recovering alcoholic
I was sober once before for maybe three months, cold turkey, no big problems until the car wreck, ER visit, and some Dr. Bungle just handing me a couple fistfulls of what is nearly heroin
I was sober no longer after that experience
now I’m still 7yrs+
so question:
what is the common acceptance of percocet?
does the VA usually have temp/fresh from med school type of Dr. Jacka$ $ es that just hand over fistfulls of heroin?
I’m aware percocet, hydrocodone, oxycontin, etc. are all abused (Rush Limbaugh (good for him on sobriety although I’m no fan)) and popular club drugs
but this girl is super sexy and very sweet and nice – or is it just the heroin talking?
I’ve got the ‘sober’ in me wanting to bust out an intervention – lmao

It does have legit medical use. Yes, it is abused a lot. But it does have real medical use.
Unfortunately, most of the abuse from the drug comes from the addiction rates, not the fun factor. I mean, it does make you high, about as a high as any other rx pain med, but its not that great. Morphine feels better to most people.
A second factor of the abuse rates is the drug oxycontin. That is a name brand for a pill that only contains oxy, and it is in a time release form to give pain meds over 12-24 hours. People were taking the pill, crushing it, and getting a whole 12-24 hours worth of meds instantly, which would produce quite a high.
The percocet however, is at a much lower dosage per pill… probably 5-10mg. It is also combined with tylonaly, at a high enough dosage that in order to get a high enough dosage of oxy to produce that type of high, you would be taking potentially lethal amounts of tylonal.
I would certainly NOT recommend someone with a past history of drug or alcohol addiction/abuse to use this med. But for someone who doesnt have that history, and is using the med as directed, it shouldnt be a problem. I wouldnt recommend it for long term use, but when you have chronic pain, addiction is a chance you run no matter what pain med you use.
