Holiday Party Alert: 10 Ways to Avoid Losing Your Home, Family, Job or Going to Jail

New York, NY (PRWEB) December 9, 2010

Recovering alcoholic and addict Jeffrey Christian, founder of The Number 12 Foundation and executive search firm CTPartners, gives ten tips to avoid losing your home, family, job, or even going to jail this holiday season. Christian knows from experience, he lost his home, job, family and ended up in jail before becoming a recovering alcoholic and addict. He has rebounded and regained his home, family, found a new job – and now works with prisoners and individuals who are alcoholics and addicts with his Number 12 Foundation.

Further, it is reported that each year, more than 11,000 people are killed in alcohol-related crashes, representing 32 percent of all motor vehicle crashes. Additionally, more than a million people are arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol each year.

Christian recommends these tips for the Holiday party:

1. Choose to be the sober driver. “Doing so, forces you to stay out of trouble,” he said. “Boring is safe.”

2. If you want to drink, limit yourself to one glass of wine. “From there, drink sparkling water.”

3. Don’t do shots. “Shots are like shooting yourself in the foot,” Christian said.

4. Order your own drinks and watch them being poured. “You don’t know what the bartender, or a friend, might do for you as a ‘favor’.”

5. If you are an alcoholic, go to a 12-step meeting instead of a holiday party. “You simply don’t need to be at an open bar,” Christian noted.

6. Hang with the winners, not the drinkers. “If you are at the office party, find the people who don’t party,” he added.

7. Eat dinner.

8. Per Nancy Reagan, “Just say ‘no’.”

9. Don’t go to holiday parties, plan a family event instead.

10. Have an escape route, and an escape plan. “I suggest to many people that they just stop in for an hour – then have another place to go – even if they don’t have another place to go.”
