Hot New Urban Poet Releases Newest Book

New York, NY (PRWEB) June 5, 2007

“Organic Hotels”, the newest poetry collection by Matthew Abuelo, is now available. The work looks at modern day America through the eyes of a political activist and a maturing artist. Enlarging on themes from his first book, “Last American Roar”, “Organic Hotels” moves away from youthful issues such as drug abuse, alienation and loss to focus on current events such as the war in Iraq, the sterilization of New York City and the author’s disenchantment with the US Government and the deterioration of American life. Thankfully, Mr. Abuelo avoids lamenting about the vagaries of his parents an all-too-common subject for young poets.

While heavily influenced by “Beat” poets such as Alan Ginsberg, Jim Carroll and NYrican poet Miguel Pinero in his earlier work, “Organic Hotels” shows the author developing his own voice. There is a music and cadence to his words reminiscent of the raw energy of the 1970s New York scene. He first made a name for himself as an anti-war/activist poet after being banned from a coffee house on Long Island in 2003 for reading poetry which criticized the invasion of Iraq.

Born in 1975 Matthew Abuelo was raised in a military family, relocating many times during childhood from Oklahoma to Germany to Washington state. He has won numerous awards including the Editor’s Choice award from the National Library of Poetry in 1996, 1997, 1998, 2000 and 2003.

Mr. Abuelo currently resides in Manhattan and works as a media analyst. His political blogs appear on blogit.com and he has been the featured reader at several forums throughout Long Island, NY. As a community activist, Mr. Abuelo joined the campaign to stop Illegal Hotels in residential buildings and was elected to the Board of the newly created West Side Neighborhood Alliance in 2007.

“Organic Hotels” is available for purchase on www.lulu.com and will soon be listed on Amazon.com and on the websites of most major book stores.
