How do You Speak to Your Partner at an Alcohol and Drug Abuse Intervention?
First you should make 2 lists. All of the bad things she has done over the last year or since she’s been involved with taking drugs. Then make a separate list outlining all her unique abilities. Let her know that she is throwing those down the toilet if she does not seek professional help soon.
An addict needs to hear the truth and they need to hear it right from the people in their lives that are closest to them. They need to be constantly reminded that they are destroying their lives. Yeah I know, it’s nagging as far as they are concerned, but they need to hear it. The reason I say this is because deep down there’s a strong will in all of us to do something great with our lives, but some bury this until the bottle or needle.
I mean Smoking Cigarettes is bad enough, but doing meth and heroin will kill you in short order. Your body goes days without rest. Drug Addicts fiend and even steal for it.
I’ve lived around Drug Addicts my entire childhood, I never personally became a heavy drug user but I did experiment with Pot and some other drugs. My friends ended up doing it everyday for years. Most of them are in and out of jail, or working hard labor jobs.
The socialization of that negative environment seemed to slowly turn these people, which I remember as normal kids, into selfish people who would steal, lie and cheat just for a few hits of crack. Maybe they should have watched more Drug Intervention TV. All I can say is that it is the fast road to doom.
The main thing is let them know you care about them. But also stand firm and tell him your true feelings. The drugs he is hiding behind is his own tainted version of reality. You need to remind him that you have needs to, and he is destroying you as well as himself. Every relationship is give and take. And unfortunately, most Drug Users just learn to take.
