How Is Alcoholism and Drug Addiction Different?
by FixersUK
Question by : How is alcoholism and drug addiction different?
My son’s father is a drug addict and I almost never allow him to see his father. One of my best friends is an alcoholic and I am trying to help her through it. They both act very similar and I’m wondering if there is any difference between being a drug addict and an alcoholic. Both can be violent and I don’t ever allow them around my son when they are high or drunk. It’s very hard not to distance myself from these people totally.

I think that by taking drugs you are more likely to die because they do more damage to your body. But being an alcoholic is just as bad, you could get alcohol poisoning and when you get that you throw up blood, yea I’m sorry it’s gross but it’s the truth. BUT both of them are very very bad there really is no specific difference NEVER attempt to anything drug or alcohol related :)

There is no difference – alcohol is percieved as a drug. Two people with an addiction to a seperate one will act extremely similar – dangerous to be around at most times because they can be violent and erratic. The reason people think there is a difference is because a drug addiction is immediatly perceived as someone who is addicted to something that is illegal and is therefore their fault and a person with an alcohol problem is a person with a problem with something legal and is therefore felt sorry for. They are both the same – only one is legal and one isn’t.
