How Long Must One Go to School to Become a Psychotherepist?

i need the total number of years and I am tired of looking all over the net, so I am asking the Yahoo Answers comminuty because SOMEONE at least will know the answer, or at least give me a rought guesstimate… I need the exact amount number of years, and no long, drawn out statement. I looked at other questions on here, and they were long and drawn out. help! Just the straight stuff, no tangents….. Yes this is for a story, and I can’t proceed without knowing. and,also, I am not naming names, but since I have experience with bi-polars,depressives, cutters,drug addicts,alcoholics, Viet Nam era vets, flashbacks, ect, I am told that maybe I should go into psychology or maybe become a counsellor. I am not so sure. I mean, ANYBODY can guide someone and offer advice, but to COUNSEL someone? I am more of a ” dear Abby” type, certainly NOT a Dr. Phil- type!
