How to Wisely Monitor Your Teen for Drug Abuse
A good parent is a watchful parent. Yes, today, it’s harder than it used to be considering our teens have access to the internet, drive earlier and with most homes having two working parents, more time unsupervised. And most parents do not want to believe that their child could become a user or ever end up in a drug rehab center. But even the best of kids acquiesce to peer pressure and a cycle that is very dangerous has begun. Watching for signs of possible drug use is not accusing your teen, just being an observant and loving parent. Basically, when a young person gets involved in drug abuse they are probably are going to need the help of a drug rehab center. When they change their group of friends, their grades drop below what they were averaging or they lose interest in any of the hobbies that they had, it’s time to take notice. These symptoms are not for the “occasional” drug user, but someone who more than likely has an addiction and will need a drug rehab center. It is imperative that a parent or guardian monitor their child’s behavior, but carefully. You don’t want to appear to be spying on them because that will take them further away from you. Some advocate that you begin to hug your child when they walk in the door checking for drug or alcohol odors. Others suggest you watch and see if they go straight to their room after they come into the home, which could be a sign they are trying to hide something. Be aware what time they come in and look at them before they go to bed. Be a bit unpredictable in your scheduling of when you’re home in order to find your teen in an undesirable situation. This will help identify a possible need for a drug rehab center that can help greatly. Prescription drug addiction is on the rise in every high school. Like alcohol, these drugs are legal and can be accessed through their own parent’s medicine cabinet or easily available from friends or on the street. Prescription drug addiction is very serious and because more and more is needed to get the same high, overdosing is common which many times leads to death. Alcohol rehab centers and even a drug rehab center near you can help you better understand the issues associated with prescription drug addiction as well as other drugs and their signs and symptoms. Be watchful of your teen and perhaps help save their life.
