I Am a Recovering Cocaine Addict, Can I Have a Glass of Wine?
Question by Beth L: I am a recovering cocaine addict, can I have a glass of wine?
In 2005 I went through outpatient rehab for cocaine. I have had one slip up with drugs when I found myself in a place where i shouldn’t have been- around the wrong people, places, and things. That was about 8 months ago. I really lost the trust of my partner after this and am still rebuilding my relationship. I have not used since, however I do drink. If I avoid “those people” and “those places” I have no problem with cravings etc. However, my partner has requested that I stop drinking altogether. I have not drank in over a month. However I feel like I have stopped because she has demanded it- she feels she can trust me more if I do not drink. The first time I went to rehab (I’ve been twice) I did it because others wanted me to and it didn’t “work”. I don’t really want to quit drinking altogether- I feel like I am being forced. When I tell her this she says I am manipulating her. I’m not trying to- I know the manipulation game well- I am trying to be honest. Help?

A person with an addictive personality should probably stay away from any type of addictive substance.
Your partner doesn’t want you to stop drinking because she is mean or wants to control you, she is looking out for your well-being. Your actions affect her too and if she feels more secure when you are not drinking then it is worth the sacrifice, in my opinion.
