Drug addiction is a state of periodic or chronic intoxication produced by the repeated consumption of a drug (natural or synthetic). Its characteristics include: an overpowering desire or need (compulsion) to continue taking the drug and to obtain it by any means; a tendency to increase the dose; a psychic (psychological) and generally a physical dependence on the effects of the drug; and detrimental effects on the individual and on society. From “The Addiction” The Addiction is an unconventional 1995 vampire film by Abel Ferrara, starring Lili Taylor, Edie Falco, Paul Calderon and Christopher Walken. It was written by Ferrara’s regular screenwriter, Nicholas St John, filmed in black and white and released simultaneously with Ferrara’s period gangster film, The Funeral. The film is widely considered an allegory about drug addiction.
