Most addicts are young people from 18 to 30 years old. The Russian Federal Service of Drug Control has stated that the scale and the speed drug-addiction in Russia is such that it threatens the countrys national security. Halfway between St. Petersburg and Lake Ladoga Archpriest Sergiy Belkov has founded the first Russian Orthodox drug rehabilitation centre. The centre lives following the rules of a monastic community: for those in rehabilitation, obligatory church services and prayers, and to work as requested. With no medical intervention, only through labour, prayer and love, up to 80% of those who enter are cured. As a result, drug addicted from throughout Russia increasingly come to this small parish. This 27-minute documentary recounts the testimony of those struggling through the rehabilitation program as well as those who have offered their lives to serve.
