Dual diagnosis programs are services specially designed to treat individuals afflicted with dual diagnosis. Dual diagnosis, also termed co-occurring disorders, means that the person has a personality disorder along with a substance abuse disorder at the same time. Studies have shown that for a patient to recover from dual diagnosis, he must undergo treatment that encompasses both disorders. Treating only one of the disorders won’t make the other go away, and this bodes for bigger chances of relapse. Dual diagnosis programs make recovery possible for people with co-occurring disorders, allowing them to regain their normal lives.
