Is Marijuana Proven to Be Addictive?
Question by : Is marijuana proven to be addictive?
I thought it was only psychological but this government website says otherwise, if you have any websites to recommend to look at for addictive potential list them. Does this only apply to long-term users? Here is the link and what it says http://drugabuse.gov/infofacts/marijuana.html
Addictive Potential
Long-term marijuana abuse can lead to addiction; that is, compulsive drug seeking and abuse despite the known harmful effects upon functioning in the context of family, school, work, and recreational activities. Estimates from research suggest that about 9 percent of users become addicted to marijuana; this number increases among those who start young (to about 17 percent) and among daily users (25-50 percent).
Long-term marijuana abusers trying to quit report withdrawal symptoms including: irritability, sleeplessness, decreased appetite, anxiety, and drug craving, all of which can make it difficult to remain abstinent. These symptoms begin within about 1 day following abstinence, peak at 2-3 days, and subside within 1 or 2 weeks following drug cessation.3

Pot can be addictive, but often it is a symptom of other issues in life, rather than being the issue itself, making it more often than not psychological. Indoor and hydroponically grown marijuana (hydro) is not good for you, due to the chemicals used in the growing process. Hydro has been associated with higher rates of addiction, damage to the central nervous system and psychosis.
Pot grown in a natural setting (bush), without chemical fertilizers has been associated with a lot of health benefits including help for insomniacs, certain cancers (though if smoked rather than eaten increases lung cancer chances), pain relief, dream suppression for suffers of PTS disorder, etc. It still has a rate of addiction, but it is much much lower than with hydro. I have never seen anyone have psychosis after eating or smoking bush.
Unfortunately there are a lot of places where hydro and/or indoor are the only things available.
Government statistics usually don’t take the major differences between indoor and out door because of their often official no tolerance approach.
