Lortab, Generic… Severe Pain or Tolerance?
Question by David L: lortab, generic… severe pain or tolerance?
I have a really rare genetic disorder (Ehlers Danlos Syndrome). Pretty much my joints are really lose and weak. Easily injured… found this out the hard way. Now when I was 17 I found all this out… at least 4+ medical problems and no I don’t want them to be true and no I don’t want them period. Not faking… I had a few answers posted stating that when I explained. I’m 24. I look more like 14-18ish which is good. I don’t mind that. But I do have some really major and severe medical problems. Specially with my joints. Doesn’t take a rocket scientists to figure out… well joints pop out damage happens. So for all those RNs out there that want to say “You’re young you want to think you have problems now… blah blah blah” Please go back to school first. Yea long and complicated story. So please leave if you have trouble already. I was prescribed lortab for knee and back pain. Does nothing! yea severe knee pain; MRI came out saying:
“The MRI of the left knee done 7/2/10 did NOT show a fracture; the knee cap had mild edema (swelling); the tibia bone appeared to be slightly displaced from the femur bone possibly due to a connective tissue disorder or the ligament being lax. Please keep the appointments to Rheumatoid and Orthopedic clinics.” Also had a note under it “If a device such as a cane is needed then please let us know.”
So I’m on Adderall XR. took double the dose (again another long story short: I used to be on 40 mg but since I’m not in college or in anything that needs my brain to be taxed they put me on 10 mg. Nothing to do with starting me over on a dosage and etc. I took twice due to a hang over. I take it as needed) But I decided to get drunk again tonight. Trying to figure out if Adderall affects my tolerance to Alcohol… doesn’t. I have a high tolerance to everything it seems. Pain, adderall, booze, lortab, heart meds, etc. Though turns out I don’t have heart problems… was a mistake on the drs part. Or we’re hoping!
With ALL that background, I know it’s a lot… But 7.5-500 hydrocodone.I heard that’s a lot. I got drunk and in PAIN. I mean really bad. So I ended up taking 6 or so. Vomited mostly due to a stomach ulcer. Also on nexium for it. So yea haven’t been drinking a lot lately due to it. Normally Ultram BARELY takes the edge of for my knee pain. At the moment I’m not in severe pain. Now I’m always in pain so when I say I’m not in pain, I’m in around a 2-4ish on the pain scale… just being honest. sobering up too…
PS: I weigh 129ish and eat a lot. Meds usually last half as long as they say… thus said. Lortab is pretty much out of my system now. Pain not as bad so I’m happy. Probably going to take a few more shot to make sure I stay asleep… it’s 6:06 here. And I HATE taking meds. Don’t think I said that but yea… I have a swallowing problem. For me to take 6 pills that are more like horse pills…. means something. For me to even admit to being in pain…… means something. Put two and two together please. I’m only interested in insightful answers not bs.
I want to know so I can bring it up when I go to the dr again. Had no insurance before now the coverage is free… so kind of playing catchup… just need to remember everything to ask and what not. I would also like to mention, specially since the pain is returning (I took all the meds around 2; 4 hours ago) I’m tempted to cut off my leg. Pain is THAT bad. and only told a few drs that… mostly fear of them thinking I’m crazy. I am not. Anyone else would be crawling and crying. Again sorry for all the details… it complicated!
MAIN QUESTION(s): Am I in that bad of pain? Could I be having a natural tolerance to Lortab? Any way, or test, I can take to find out? Or could it be my high metabolism? Or maybe the meds aren’t be absorbed properly?
Also been sent to physical therapy. They said they can’t do anything for my knee. I’d have to work my way to it. Then they ended up saying they’re going to tell the drs that I don’t need it. They’ve done all they can… in a matter of months so… idk on that end. Either they were to ignorant on my condition or really there wasn’t much they could do.
Swimming for 10 mins = SEVERE pain for 1+ weeks
Walking for 20+ mins = SEVERE pain for 1+ weeks
Standing for 10+ mins = SEVERE pain for 1+ weeks
And no matter what I do… it lasts for at least a week. I can just lay in bed all week… been there done that and it’ll still ache like hell. Weather aggravates it too. Might have some arthritis drs say.

yES THE PAIN COULD BE THAT BAD ASK THE DOCTOR about either norco 10/325 which is the hydrocodone stronger but a smaller pill than you take now or about duragesic patches. You wear these on the skin an they provide constant relief. Most Dr. would also give you the norco for breakthrough pain as well. good luck.
