Melba Moore & Others Lend Helping Hand to Harlem Youth Program

The Sledge Group, Inc. will host the 4th Annual “Healing In Harlem” Gospel Fest featuring Grammy & Tony Award Winner, Melba Moore. This benefit concert will be held on Saturday, August 21, 2004 from 5-8pm at Aaron Davis Hall, City College of New York campus, West 135th Street & Convent Avenue, NYC.
The Sledge Group, Inc. offers a holistic approach to mentoring urban youth. Urban youth aged 9-18, respectively meet weekly, during the academic year and participate in workshops that offer solutions to many problems that plague the community and their everyday lives (gang awareness, HIV/AIDS education, alcohol and substance abuse prevention, self-empowerment, truancy, involvement with the criminal justice system). In addition to providing mentoring services, the youth are required to participate in weekly tutoring sessions, which increase the potential for academic excellence. The Sledge Group, Inc. has also implemented a Parent Support Network to promote a healthier relationship within the home. The parents meet bi-weekly to work through a variety of issues and conflicts that their child may be faced with.
Ms. Moore returns to Harlem to help the community to heal. The Sledge Group, Inc. is pleased to announce that she will be performing at this event to assist in raising money to keep the program afloat. Ms. Moore recognizes this program for the outstanding work that is being done in the community and is provided at no cost to the participants. The Sledge Group, Inc. was recently acknowledged as “New Yorkers of the Week” by NY-1.
Harlem’s Mt. Nebo Baptist Church “William D. Gardner Ensemble” featuring songstress, Glynis Martin and Mount Vernon’s, Allen Memorial COGIC ” Nu Vision Youth Choir ” are amongst the scheduled recording artists who will also be healing spirits that evening!
