Mental Health Matters? Now More Than Ever May Is Mental Health Month
(PRWEB) April 27, 2002
For more than 50 years the National Mental Health Association has used the month of May to educate the American public about the importance of mental health and the reality of mental illness.
The theme for 2002 observance, Mental Health MattersÂ?Now More than Ever, emphasizes the key role that mental health plays in peopleÂ?s lives during these troubled timesÂ?and in all times.
This year on May 7, NMHA has expanded the observance to include other critical childhood mental illnesses such as bipolar depression, anxiety and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder.
Mental disorders in children are just as real, common and treatable as they are for adults. Left untreated, childrenÂ?s mental health disorders can lead to problems at home, trouble in school and the community, substance abuse and even suicide.
