Morbidly Overweight People?

Question by Kent-B-True: Morbidly Overweight people?
I was watching a documentary about overweight people the other day, there is some clinics around the country that help people with serious obesity probles, I’m talking people that are actually 760lbs. Some of this people can’t move (ovbiosly) or take care of themselves, most of them have been confined to a bed for the last 9 years without going anywhere, they keep growing in size ’cause they keep eating theirselves to death ingesting 15,000 calories a day. I understand food can be an addiction as drugs are or alcohol or you name it. My question is, I canunderstand a drug addict go and gets drugs on the streets or whatever, the alcoholic goes to the bar, but a 700 lbs man can’t go anywhere, can not even move!!!! Is in it NEGLICENCE that someone (wife, son, daughter, sister, whoever) keeps bringing junk and calling the pizza deliver guy and attend the door??? I’m just rying to understand how if you see that someone is dying from this addcition you keep bringing poison to his/her bed?
Wow, very good anwers, I’m glad I’m not the only one looking at this issue. I understand that drug addicts on rehab can give up drugs and stay clean, so I understand is harder since food addicts “still” have to eat no matter what, so they have tu put an extra effort to deal with his “drug” of choice on a regular basis.

About the Intervention show I watched once, and Yes, I see how addicts ask for money to buy groceries and they go get crack, but in my example even if the people get money they can’t go anyway!!! so the other people has to bring them the drug like a duble chees burguer or a large peperonni pizza.

I also agree with the lady that mention genes, but so far I haven’t seen a vegetarian getting 800 lbs on carrots or lettuce.

I agree. And just like the family members/friends that continue in the life of the drug addict or alcoholic, it’s called co-dependency.

Check out the website for “Co-dependents Anonymous”. It will tell you about why there is co-dependency. Co-dependents are just as ill as the addicts themselves….just in a different way:
