Question by Southern California Belle™: My brother tells me that “His drug addictions got him nowhere but time in jail?”….?
okay…does that mean he wants to recover from his drug addiciton???
I love my bro too much…he wrote to me and mom today for the first time in a long time.
is this a first step of recovery??
or any drug addict says this when they are in jail?
or what is ur opinion?

yes he is still locked up

There are several “stages” for addicts. They are:
precontemplation, contemplation, decision, action, relapse, and maintenance.

It sounds like your brother may be taking the first steps towards change. Many times, situations such as jail can push people forward into the contemplation that they may need to get help for their addictions. It’s great if this is the case, but your brother will need to realize (as will the rest of your family) that this is a lifelong process that often includes relapses. I hope that your brother will permanantly stop his abuse of drugs and/or alcohol and I wish you well. I think his words show a lot of potential and promise. Try to be supportive when he is released.
