Narconon Joins International Campaign of Anti-Drug Message
Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) June 25, 2007
The past 12 months have been another stellar year of growth for Narconon International, a worldwide drug rehabilitation and education organization.
Spearheading the international effort is a massive drug education and prevention program that reaches more than 500,000 youth each year with live presentations, another 1.5 million with educational videos, and tens of millions more with anti-drug messages through the media.
“We’re very concerned about the increase in use of pharmaceuticals by children, both in the United States and around the world,” says Narconon International President Clark Carr. “The onslaught of prescription drug promotion and drug availability on the internet has created a global epidemic of abuse that will one day surpass illicit drug abuse if more is not done to prevent it.”
Narconon has reached out with other non-profit and humanitarian organizations to help child and adult alike. Projects included Narconon Georgia staff working with a local NGO to help street children in Honduras overcome addiction to glue through the application of L. Ron Hubbard’s sauna detoxification program. Other activities spanned across almost 50 countries, including the United States, United Kingdom, Brazil, Italy, South Africa, Nepal, Kazakhstan and so on.
According to a release from the UNODC, the slogan of the 2007 anti-drugs campaign to be launched on 26 June is “Do drugs control your life? Your life. Your community. No place for drugs.” The slogan will be used for three years and focus on different aspects of drug control: drug abuse in 2007, drug cultivation and production in 2008, and illicit drug trafficking in 2009.
With this campaign, UNODC aims to raise awareness of the major problem that illicit drugs represents to society and to solicit the help of other organizations to carry that message. No individual, family or community is safe where illicit drugs take control.
The UNODC website reports that worldwide nearly 200 million people are using abusing drugs worldwide. It states, “Drugs destroy lives and communities, undermine sustainable human development and generate crime. Drugs affect all sectors of society in all countries. In particular, drug abuse affects the freedom and development of young people, the world’s most valuable asset.” “Our Narconon staff could not agree more,” says Carr. “If we love our children, we will educate them well how to avoid the dangers of drugs.”
