Native American Drug Treatment

A drug treatment and rehab program can only have positive results if it is designed to fit the individual’s specific needs.  No matter what the addiction is, treatment and recovery are oftentimes ineffective unless it focuses specifically on the cultural and psychological characteristics of the addicted individual.  Taking this into consideration, we designed and developed a Native American Drug Treatment program that targets the beliefs, culture, and customs of the Native American individual.

Focusing on the culturally relevant treatment and recovery materials and methods is what our Native American Drug Treatment has been designed to do.  This program was developed in conjunction with the Native American Wellbriety movement, created by White Bison Inc.  Additionally, all of the licensed counsellors who are involved in this program are Native American.

Core materials utilized in this program include works such as “Meditations with Native American Elders”, “The Medicine Wheel and 12 Steps”, and “The Red Road to Wellbriety in the Native American Way.”  Individuals who enter our Native American Drug Treatment program not only learn how to rid themselves of their addiction, they are also assisted in healing themselves on four distinct levels – emotionally, mentally, physically, and spiritually.

Engaging the addict in culturally relevant activities, such as attend a Sweat Lodge ceremony, is something that this program encourages them to participate in.  Past emotional traumas are also addressed since so many Native American addictions are associated with the Indian boarding school era, oftentimes referred to as Inter Generational Trauma.  This is still impacting Native American people today so it is incorporated into our program.
